Carpmas Wassail Wail

Walk door-to-door with a troop of like-minded neighbours, sing this shanty, see what gets given to you (or thrown at you):

CarpComedy

December 22nd, 2012

After some struggle we, the publishers of this blog, have come to the realization that carp really aren’t very funny.

CarpCaboodle

December 20th, 2012

I’m always flattered when readers send me things... at other times of the year… that make them think of Carpmas.

Here is a photo sent by Susan. She and her family were vacationing in Salzberg when they happened upon a carp pond. Cameras were pulled and the experience was documented just for me:

Here is an info-graphic discovered last month that outlines Holiday meals around the world. Browse and note the number of times carp graces the plates of Yuletide feasters.

See. I didn’t lie to you:

Moral: One tiny carp in the bathtub, is worth any two carp in the lake!

When the carp start talking to you, it might be time to pack up your rod and call it a day

Carp Art: Hokusai?

December 18th, 2012

Whilst on my recent journey to New York City, my husband and I had the privilege of visiting many great art institutions, one of which owns and displays a famous Hokusai print.

I’m a great proponent for the encouragement of seeing famous works of art in person, as prints in books and poster copies can’t possibly capture the energy of the real thing. I was proven correct in my theorem once more; how many times have we viewed this print and obviously missed its reference to Carpmas.

How was I oblivious to these tiny fancy carp in the past? Especially when their depicted struggle against the tide is so poignant… so symbolic…  ?

Yes, yes… I’m well aware that carp are fresh water fish.
