Carpmas FAQ’s

Why carp?

Carp is a traditional Christmas Eve meal eaten in many European nations (the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, Germany, Latvia… maybe many others… I’m not sure). It’s a strange tradition in that I have yet to meet anyone who has had carp that likes carp.

Do I have to give gifts for Carpmas?

Gifts are not a requirement during Carpmas, but if you feel that you need to give a gift — we who govern Carpmas ask that it be homemade!

Is it a sacrilege to celebrate Carpmas as well as Christmas?

Carpmas is all about subtracting greed, guilt and gluttony from the season. Last time I looked those three things were considered pretty un-christian-like (although during Christmas  – you wouldn’t know it! ) Okay – maybe guilt applies – but that’s Easter, not Christmas.

Are you making fun of Christmas?

You bet I am!
